Take away: Butane (C4H10) is a hydrocarbon, and hydrocarbons may produce cancer. When Butane is used as a solvent to produce cannabis concentrates, it may have unintended consequences. Yes, they may be excellent extractors of phytocannabinoids, but if the purging process is interrupted, your concentrate may be putting you at unrecognized risk!
Colorado MED butane limits: Initial limits were set at 800 ppm (parts per million) but then it was bumped up to 5,000ppm and in 2018 the MED settled on 1,000ppm.
